This Privacy Policy explains how AkkamChat collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use our application, website, messaging, calling, file-sharing, and AI services.

1. Information we collect

Account and profile information

We may collect:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Telephone number
  • Profile picture
  • Region or service area
  • Verification status
  • Account preferences

Authentication credentials are processed through our authentication provider. We do not intentionally store readable passwords in our application database.

Messages and shared content

In current supported app versions, human direct and group conversation content is end-to-end encrypted on user devices before transmission. AkkamChat’s normal backend and storage systems are designed to store and route ciphertext rather than the readable content of:

  • Direct and group messages
  • Voice messages
  • Photos and videos
  • Documents
  • Shared locations
  • Poll questions, options, and votes
  • Reactions
  • Scheduled messages
  • Stories and broadcasts
  • Forwarded content

Operational metadata remains server-visible so the service can authenticate users, route traffic, synchronize devices, enforce group membership, and deliver notifications. This may include sender and recipient identifiers, timestamps, message identifiers, delivery/read/typing/presence state, group membership, group names and descriptions, profile photos, pin and expiration state, notification routing, and fixed abuse-report categories.

Content you deliberately include in an email or other support request is visible to the support channel you use. The in-app abuse-report flow is designed to submit identifiers and a fixed report category without automatically disclosing the human message body.

Calls

We process call-related metadata such as participants, call type, room identifiers, invitation status, start and end times, missed calls, and connection diagnostics.

In current supported app versions, audio and video call media is end-to-end encrypted before it is transmitted through WebRTC and our calling provider. The provider and AkkamChat still process the metadata needed to establish and manage the call. Calls are not recorded by default unless a recording feature is clearly activated and identified.

Akkam AI

When you use Akkam AI, we process the prompt, attachments, AI history or other relevant context you choose to provide, the generated response, and technical information needed to operate the feature. Akkam AI content is not end-to-end encrypted because AkkamChat and its AI provider must be able to process it.

Optional contact discovery

If you choose Find Phone Contacts and grant Contacts permission, normalized phone numbers and email addresses are sent through an encrypted connection for exact account matching. Contact names remain on your device, and AkkamChat does not retain or build a copy of your address book. Contact identifiers used for the matching request are not end-to-end encrypted.

Device and technical information

We may process:

  • Account and device identifiers
  • Device and operating-system information
  • Application version
  • IP address
  • Session information
  • Notification tokens
  • Connection status
  • Error and performance information
  • Security and abuse-prevention signals

2. Permissions

AkkamChat may request access to:

  • Camera
  • Microphone
  • Notifications
  • Photos and files
  • Location when you choose a location feature

Permissions are used to provide the feature you request. You can manage them through your device settings.

3. How we use information

We use information to:

  • Create and secure accounts
  • Route end-to-end encrypted human messages, files, and call media to their intended recipients
  • Process the operational metadata needed to connect calls and synchronize conversations
  • Operate groups
  • Generate Akkam AI responses
  • Send notifications
  • Synchronize content
  • Provide support
  • Detect fraud, spam, and abuse
  • Diagnose technical problems
  • Enforce our Terms of Use
  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell personal information for money or use private messages for third-party targeted advertising.

4. Service providers

We use service providers for authentication, databases, encrypted-content storage, hosting, notifications, calls, AI processing, security, and support.

Providers may include Google Firebase, Render, LiveKit, OpenAI, and other services enabled by AkkamChat. Firebase, Render, and LiveKit may process encrypted human content and the operational metadata needed to provide their functions. OpenAI receives the Akkam AI content that a user intentionally submits because Akkam AI is not end-to-end encrypted. Providers process information according to their agreements and privacy terms.

5. Information shared with other users

Other users may see information connected to your activity, such as your display name, profile picture, group membership, online status, messages, files, reactions, and call participation.

Only share information you are comfortable providing to the intended recipients.

6. Legal and safety disclosures

We may disclose information when reasonably necessary to:

  • Follow applicable law or valid legal process
  • Protect users or the public
  • Investigate fraud, abuse, or security incidents
  • Enforce our agreements
  • Protect our rights and property
  • Complete a business transaction such as a merger or acquisition

For current end-to-end encrypted human conversations, information available to AkkamChat may be limited to ciphertext and server-visible metadata. End-to-end encryption does not prevent an intended recipient from saving, copying, forwarding, recording, screenshotting, or reporting content after it is decrypted on that recipient’s device. Akkam AI content, support communications, profile information, and operational metadata are not protected by human-conversation end-to-end encryption and may be disclosed when legally required.

7. Data retention

We retain encrypted human conversation data and server-visible metadata for as long as necessary to operate AkkamChat, provide requested features, protect security, resolve disputes, and meet legal obligations. Akkam AI content and support communications may have different retention needs because those services must process readable submissions.

When you delete your account, we take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify associated information, subject to legal, security, backup, and technical requirements.

Messages or files already delivered to another user may remain in that user’s account.

Older records, provider backups, and logs created before the current end-to-end encryption release may remain subject to provider retention and deletion schedules. Installing a newer app version cannot retroactively encrypt or erase historical copies outside the active service database.

8. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access your information
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Delete information
  • Receive a copy of information
  • Object to or restrict certain processing
  • Withdraw consent
  • Appeal a privacy decision

Submit privacy requests to legal@akkamchat.com. We may verify your identity before completing a request.

9. Security

We use safeguards such as encrypted connections, end-to-end encryption for current human conversation content and call media, authentication, authorization, storage rules, access controls, rate limits, and server-side secret management. If a required human-conversation key is unavailable, supported clients are designed to stop the protected operation instead of sending readable content.

End-to-end encryption does not cover Akkam AI or operational metadata required to run the service. The encryption implementation has not yet received an independent professional cryptography audit.

No system is completely secure. You are responsible for protecting your device and account credentials.

10. International processing

AkkamChat and its providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Where required, we use appropriate legal protections for international transfers.

11. Children

AkkamChat is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information without legally required parental consent.

If you believe a child has provided information improperly, contact legal@akkamchat.com.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Policy as AkkamChat changes. Material updates may be announced through the app, website, or email.
